Turn Your Bathroom into a Serene Sanctuary in Five Steps

Step One: Declutter

It can be difficult to relax in a cluttered and busy space. Streamlining your bathroom will help you to start afresh and work towards creating a more peaceful sanctuary.

Go through your existing bathroom products, donating any unused or duplicate bottles to charity and disposing of expired toiletries responsibly.

Protecting counter space is key in achieving an uncluttered appearance, so keep daily-use products accessible but store everything else away and out of sight.

Step Two: Consider Redecorating

If you’re keen to make a bigger change to elevate your bathroom, redecoration and a change of colour palette can transform your space.

Avoid bold and brash tones like orange as these are 'energetic' colours. Instead, choose muted, warm neutrals inspired by nature. Shades that reflect natural features like sand and sage green help to create a calming and grounding space.

We'd suggest the soft and balanced sage Green 02 eggshell from Lick, the subtle and characterful neutral Margot from Coat, or Edward Bulmer's Inferior Grey, made from natural mineral pigments.

Step Three: Introduce Natural Elements

To complement your natural colour palette, add plants to your bathroom. Choose plants that thrive in warmer, humid conditions, or even fake plants for a lower maintenance option.

Step 4: Consider Lighting

Create a sense of ambience by introducing mood lighting. Dimmable bulbs are preferable to harsh lights, and candles can also be used to achieve a calming and peaceful feel.

Step 5: Final Touches

Treat yourself by refreshing your towel collection; indulge in plush cotton or bamboo towels in a shade that complements your bathroom walls.

Think about how you'll arrange your towels, keeping one out for use and rolling up the spare ones in a neat stack.

If your bathroom is on the small side with little natural light, mirrors can help to give the illusion of more space. Shimmering, reflective surfaces like chrome fixtures and glossy tiles add a sense of brightness, which is a real mood-booster!
