Our Story

Paint the Town Green was set up in 2007 by Phil Robinson and cited in the national press as a “firm which defines a new species of tradesperson”. We offer a one-stop bespoke decorating service and a pioneering range of environmentally friendly paint.

With over 20 years of experience under our belt, our knowledge is vast. We can do it all – from hanging wallpaper to fulfilling all of your painting needs. We can recommend trusted other trades to ensure your project goes smoothly with minimal hassle, stress and disruption to your home.

Alongside our residential projects, we also do commercial work. This includes Damion Hirst’s London gallery, Conran’s The Shop at Bluebird, The Blue Bar at the Berkley, Marc Jacob’s Mayfair store and Eileen Fisher.

How it all started

Founder Phil Robinson is a former musician who, in between gigs, worked with Sarah Beeny and as a decorator. Despite a burgeoning career touring all over the world with well known bands (you can spot him on repeats of Top of the Pops), after his first child was born, he made the decision to close his piano lid and launched Paint the Town Green.

The aim was to create a one-stop bespoke decorating company with environmentally-friendly ethics. Phil had noticed that there was very little environmentally friendly paint on the market that was free from toxic paint fumes, so he launched his own line that was made in a way which was kind to the planet. The range is of course named after songs.

When Phil opened the showroom in 2016 in Wandsworth, he made the conscious decision to curate his colour chart using shades that people really wanted. He knew that clients were overwhelmed by too much choice and they actually ended up picking the same 30 or 40 colours so he has always believed in keeping the colour chart concise – with exciting collaborations along the way.

Paint The Town Green

Phil Robinson, Founder

Phil has worked in the decorating and refurbishment trade for over 20 years. He is involved in all day-to-day aspects of the company, visits clients in their homes for colour consultations and is on hand to offer general advice. He is privileged to have worked with some of the very best interior designers over the years and is often asked to project manage refurbishments. As a parent and homeowner from South West London he is very much in tune with the requirements, concerns and expectations of clients and works tirelessly to constantly improve the services we provide. He believes in giving back to local communities and a percentage of the profits from our collection with Nicky Haslam go to Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy charity Harrison’s Fund.

Katie Baring, Showroom

Katie is a whizz at styling, colour consultancy and building relationships with the likes of kitchen companies and interior designers whom we love to work with. Having run her own refurbishment business, she is a qualified interior designer and has a very keen eye knowing instinctively how to put a room together. Katie has lots of Paint the Town Green colours in her house, including Ruby, Fade to Grey and Peridot.

Raluca Racasan, Client Liaison

Raluca is the most recent addition to the team. She is our Client Liaison officer and is there to ensure your decorating project goes smoothly from start to finish. A newly qualified interior designer, she loves colour consultancy, interior scheming and helping clients work through their home decor ideas.

Terry Teasdale, Operations Manager

Terry’s old-school knowledge is invaluable to the business. He’s the man that turns up onsite, looks after the team and makes sure the job is progressing nicely. He’s a can-do kind of man and is always happy to go that extra mile. If he wasn’t a decorator, he would have been a professional sportsman before an injury put an end to that. He knows a lot about paint and decorating and is always willing to proffer advice and help.
